PSAT Guide (for 10th/11th Grade Students)
Updated over a week ago

Overview

What is the PSAT?

Offered every October to high school sophomores and juniors, the PSAT is designed to help students prepare for the SAT by testing math, reading, and writing skills. The PSAT is not required by Sora, nor is it required by colleges, so it is a true practice test for the SAT. However, while it iis a practice test, students who take the PSAT in 11th grade and earn a high score may become eligible to earn national recognition through the National Merit Scholarship program.

Where does a student take the test?

Because the PSAT is administered to students in person, Sora cannot administer the test. We encourage students interested in the PSAT to find a local school or test center where they can take the test. To find a local school or test center in your area, please click here. Students living outside of the US can also take the PSAT and they can find a test center by following the same link.

Please note that the PSAT is now a digital test but it is still administered in person. Students will be required to bring an approved device on which they can take the test. They will also be required to download an app to their device which they will use to take the exam. For more details, please visit the following webpage.

How does a student register for the test?

Once a student has found a test location, the student or their parent/guardian will have to contact that school or test center to ask them if they can be registered for a spot at that location. That test center will then determine if they have room for the student, and they will work with the student or parent/guardian to register the student for the PSAT. Students may be charged to cover the cost of the test and any processing fees associated with the test.
