Sora observes United States Daylight Savings time, which typically begins in March and ends in November. We have an incredible community of Sora families from around the world!
What is Daylight Savings Time?
Daylight Savings Time (DST) affects many regions in the United States by shifting clocks forward in the spring and back in the fall. Sora Home automatically adjusts class schedules based on your local time zone, ensuring that families always see the correct event times.
Things to Know
DST Start and End Dates: In 2025, DST begins on March 9 and ends on November 2. In 2026, DST begins on March 8 and ends on November 1.
Your Local Time is Always Displayed: Sora Home automatically reflects your correct local time whether you are in a timezone that observes DST or not!
Areas that Don't Observe Daylight Savings
In most of the U.S., clocks spring forward by one hour in March and fall back in November. However, some locations do not observe DST, including:
Arizona (except the Navajo Nation)
Hawaii
U.S. territories like Puerto Rico, Guam, and American Samoa
Some other countries
What Happens to My Event Times?
If you live in a place that does not change clocks for DST, your event times in Sora Home will stay the same as your local time.
For example, if you have a meeting at 9:00 AM Arizona time:
Before DST (Standard Time): 9:00 AM AZ = 11:00 AM Eastern / 8:00 AM Pacific
After DST starts in March: 9:00 AM AZ = 12:00 PM Eastern / 9:00 AM Pacific
After DST ends in November: 9:00 AM AZ = 11:00 AM Eastern / 8:00 AM Pacific
This means if you're meeting with people in other time zones, their time might change even though yours stays the same.

What Happens if You Observe Daylight Savings Time?

Daylight Savings and Sora Home
Sora Home automatically adjusts for DST based on your time zone settings. If you’re in a non-DST location, your events will always display at the correct local time, even if other participants see a different time.
Sora Home automatically adjusts all event times based on your device’s time zone settings. If your area observes DST, your class times will shift accordingly.
If your area does not observe DST (e.g., Arizona), your class times will shift backwards one hour when daylight savings begins and then forward one hour when daylight savings ends. There’s no need to manually adjust anything—Sora Home ensures that your schedule always matches your local time.
Daylight Savings and Your Calendar
Google Calendar
Sora uses Google Calendar for its events, which also adjusts event times accordingly based on your local time zone. Sora Home's calendar pulls in event information from student's individual Google Calendars as well as Sora-managed events like house meetings and expedition sessions.
Checking Upcoming Events
When DST starts or ends, review your schedule to ensure you’re aware of any adjusted class times.
